Moffett Library

Moffett Library, named in honor of the late State Senator George Moffett, is housed in a three-story building completed in 1964. A major addition and renovation were completed in 1986, followed by a renovation and repurposing of the space in 2019. The library has technology enhanced individual and group study rooms, a computer lab, and open study space. On display in the Special Collections Room is the Nolan A. Moore III Heritage of Print Collection. The Special Collections Room also has MSU Texas Archives, faculty papers, and other rare materials. Tutoring and Academic Support Programs is located on the first floor of the library and provides drop-in tutoring support for most core classes, supplemental instruction, and first-year seminars.

Moffett Library has numerous online databases and resources, as well as media equipment for check-out. Users can search the library’s online catalog for books, media items, and journal articles simultaneously. For research materials that are not available at Moffett Library, the Interlibrary Loan department offers document delivery and the ability to check out items from participating libraries.

International Programs

Midwestern State University is committed to providing study-abroad opportunities for all students, whether graduate or undergraduate. To facilitate international study, the Global Education Office has been established with the expressed objective of providing support for any student who wishes to study in an international setting. Scholarships and financial aid have been set up specifically to offset a student’s study-abroad expenses. Necessary documentation and mandatory orientations for all study-abroad students ensure that each student’s experience will not be interrupted unnecessarily. Additionally, each study-abroad program is committed to academic excellence as well as to the standards set forth by the University. All international classes have rigorous requirements and offer the kind of intellectual stimuli usually found in honors courses.

For more information, please contact the Global Education Office at (940) 397- 4038 or http://www.msutexas.edu/academics/studyabroad.

Intensive English Language Institute

The Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) offers intensive courses of English language instruction to English Language Learners (ELL) who want to increase their English language proficiency for personal, academic, or professional reasons. The IELI’s academic program is divided into three levels. Each level’s curriculum includes a combination of grammar, listening, speaking, writing, pronunciation, vocabulary, and reading. The IELI’s courses are available to fulltime ELL (F-1, J-1 visa) students and to other members of the Wichita Falls community who wish to enhance their English language skills. Graduate and undergraduate Midwestern State University students who wish to improve their English language skills may enroll in English language courses through the IELI before or during attending the university.

The purpose of the IELI curriculum is to provide quality instruction in English, develop academic skills, and provide exposure to American culture for individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and language experiences. Courses are primarily content-based and help prepare students for university studies, life in the United States, and/or work in the American business community.

Admission to the IELI does not constitute admission to the University for purposes of enrolling in courses for academic credit.
