The nature of the human mind is a perennial philosophical problem that has occupied great thinkers for millennia. This course provides an in-depth exploration of theories of the mind and consciousness that operate across many disciplines today. From psychology, to biology, to computer science, the contemporary theories explored in this course provide the philosophical backbone for research in many different fields, including those of cognitive science and artificial intelligence. Students will come away with an understanding of theories such as computationalism and reductionism, as well as the most recent enactive, extended, and embodied theories of the mind.
