GEOS 5733 - Fluvial Geomorphology

Prerequisite(s): CHEM 1243 or CHEM 1253, PHYS 1624, GEOS 3734 and STAT 3573 or the approval of the instructor.

This unit will focus on Earth surface dynamics associated with river systems and will provide an in-depth investigation of the relationship between fluvial landforms and the processes that control landform development and evolution. Topics will include river flow hydraulics, river discharge statistics, geomorphological concepts, sediment dynamics, river adjustment change over varying spatiotemporal scales, landscape interpretation, and applications of geomorphology to river management issues. The course will incorporate lecture, literature reading, practical laboratory, computing, and field components.
