An in-depth coverage of a comprehensive health assessment with an introduction to the concept of health promotion and how this concept is applied within nursing practice. Health promotion is viewed broadly in scope as behaviors that promote optimal health across the lifespan within an individual, family, community, population and environment (Giddens, 2013, p. 407). This course lends itself to a concept-based approach.
(Former Description: Focus of this course is on the holistic assessment of individuals to include adaptations for age, gender, and ability. The role of the nurse in health promotion throughout the life cycle is explored by identifying normal findings within the context of a therapeutic relationship. Emphasis will be placed on acquiring skills to build a health and physical assessments, and to communicate findings.)
