Steve Garrison, Director

First established in 1964, the Redwine Honors Program offers high-achieving MSU students a challenging undergraduate learning experience, membership in an academic community, and opportunities to fully explore their passion for learning. Beginning with the Honors Creative Inquiry: Interdisciplinary Thinking course and continuing with Honors designated classes taught by innovative and dynamic faculty, the Redwine Honors Program offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that fosters students’ love for learning. Honors experiences and achievements prepare students for success and leadership in graduate and professional schools, in the job market, and as citizens of our global community.

The Redwine Honors Program includes two curricula tracks, the Redwine Honors Program and Redwine Honors Scholars. To graduate with Honors Program distinction, students must successfully complete a minimum of eight courses designated as Honors Program courses and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.250. To graduate with Honors Scholars distinction students must successfully complete a minimum of four courses designated as Honors Program courses and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.250. In addition to these curricular requirements, the Honors Program requires participation in a variety of enriching, co-curricular activities, such as professional conferences, field trips, community service, and a choice of undergraduate research projects, internships, or study abroad. Students must visit the Honors Program Office to be advised about their Honors curricular and co-curricular requirements.

The Redwine Honors Program also provides several forms of support for Honors education. These include three prestigious academic scholarships: the Redwine Presidential Scholarship ($10,000 annual), Redwine Honors Scholarship ($4,000 annual), and Redwine Honors Scholars Scholarship ($2,000 annual). The program offers additional financial support for research presentations and study abroad, as well as an academic community that includes an on-campus Honors student lounge with access to study space, a copier, and kitchen. To further enhance honors education, the program offers Honors housing as a Living and Learning Program in Legacy Hall. Midwestern State University is a member of the National Collegiate Honors Council and the regional Great Plains Honors Council. These affiliations broaden the scope of opportunities available for Honors students.

Admission to the Redwine Honors Program is competitive, and applicants are selected by the Honors Faculty Council.
