Requirements for the Bachelor of Business Administration

The Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree is offered with majors in Accounting , Economics , Finance , General Business , Management , Management Information Systems , and Marketing .

Minors are offered in Business Administration , Accounting , Economics , Entrepreneurship , and Management Information Systems .

Teacher certification is available in basic business as a primary teaching field through the West College of Education. Students seeking teacher certification should check with the West College of Education concerning the specific requirements for teacher certification early in their college careers.

All candidates for a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree must complete a program of at least 120 hours. Candidates must satisfy all general requirements for a bachelor’s degree (see General Requirements for all Bachelor’s Degrees ) as well as requirements listed below.

Academic Foundations and Core Curriculum

Candidates for the B.B.A. degree must satisfy all academic foundations and core curriculum requirements (see Academic Foundations and Core Curriculum - 42 semester hours ).

Admission to Dillard College

Students may declare a major within the Dillard College of Business Administration at any time. However, to be officially admitted into the Dillard College of Business Administration, students must meet the following requirements:

Formally apply to the Dillard College of Business Administration the semester the student is completing the Business Core requirements.
Complete all nine (27 semester hours) of the Business Core courses with a GPA of 2.2 or higher (transfer credits will be included in this computation only). See courses below.
Complete an additional 15 hours in the University Core requirements.

Students admitted to the college will be approved to enroll in advanced business courses conditioned upon successful completion of requirements 1, 2, and 3.

Business Core

To matriculate in the upper division business curriculum, students must have completed all nine (27 semester hours) of the business core courses listed below (with an overall GPA of 2.2) and have completed an additional 15 hours in the university core.

¹ Business majors must take these options in the Academic Foundations and Core Curriculum.

Professional Writing

In addition to the university core, an additional requirement for all business majors includes ENGL 2223 - Professional Writing for Business .

Professional Business Core

After satisfying the business core requirements discussed above, students pursuing the B.B.A. degree may begin taking upper-level business courses including those listed in the Professional Business Core. To receive the B.B.A. degree in most business programs, students must successfully complete all nine (27 semester hours) of the Professional Business Core courses listed below.

Requirements for Majors in Business Administration

Students may select a major in accounting, economics, finance, general business, management, management information systems, or marketing. The course of study during the first two years is similar for all business administration majors.

Specific requirements for a major in the undergraduate program are listed below. Each major requires the courses in the Professional Business Core plus other courses specific to the particular major selected. Students must earn a minimum overall grade point average of 2.0 in the major and the Professional Business Core (on the courses attempted at Midwestern State University).

Total hours granted for internships in all areas of business administration may not exceed six hours of credit.
