HIST 4133 - Interwar America, 1918-1939

Prerequisite(s): Six hours of American history or consent of the chair.

This course explores the Interwar Period (1918-1939), specifically American life from the eve of World War I to the dawn of World War II. It examines the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, and the New Deal, providing students with contextualization, specifically as it relates to race, class, and gender. Subjects discussed include segregation, the Harlem Renaissance, flappers, the Equal Rights Amendment, organized labor, and nativism. By semester’s end, students will have a solid grasp of the social, economic, political, philosophical, and cultural significance of the myriad events, many with ramifications into the present.
