Spanish for the Professions Minor


Requirements for a Minor in Spanish for the Professions


This minor is for students whose major is outside of the Prothro-Yeager College of Humanities and Social Sciences who need a more skills-based knowledge of Spanish in which the development of professional and conversational language skills in Spanish are more important.

(Students with majors in the Prothro-Yeager College of Humanities and Social Sciences will continue to declare the more humanities-based minor in Spanish .)

Eighteen semester hours:

6 semester credit hours of 2nd year Spanish


3 semester credit hours of advanced electives


A “Spanish professions” course (e.g. Medical Spanish, Business Spanish, etc.), an internship in Spanish, or any one of the other advanced courses offered in the Spanish Department.

Note:


Students pursuing a major or minor in Spanish have the option to receive up to 12 advanced semester credit hours through participation in an intensive Spanish language training institution facilitated through the MSU Office of International Education.  All credit will be awarded by Midwestern State University through the Department of World Languages and Cultures.  Courses will be focused on language, culture, and the profession of the student’s corresponding major.  In order to be eligible for this option, a minimum of six semester credit hours must be attained through courses taught by MSU faculty online or on campus, or through special permission from the Chair of the World Languages and Cultures Department.
