Steve Garrison, Director

First established in 1964, the Redwine Honors Program offers high-achieving MSU students a challenging undergraduate learning experience, membership in an academic community, and opportunities to fully explore their passion for learning. Beginning with the Honors Creative Inquiry: Interdisciplinary Thinking course and continuing with Honors designated classes taught by innovative and dynamic faculty, the Redwine Honors Program offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that fosters students’ love for learning. Honors experiences and achievements prepare students for success and leadership in graduate and professional schools, in the job market, and as citizens of our global community.

To graduate with Honors Program distinction, students must successfully complete a minimum of eight courses designated as Honors Program courses and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25. In addition to these curricular requirements, the Honors Program requires participation in a variety of enriching, co-curricular activities, such as professional conferences, field trips, community service, and a choice of undergraduate research projects, internships, or study abroad. Students must visit the Honors Program Office to be advised about their Honors curricular and co-curricular requirements.

The Redwine Honors Program also provides several forms of support for Honors education. These include two prestigious academic scholarships, the Redwine Presidential Scholarship ($7,500 annual) and Redwine Honors Scholarship ($4,000 annual), as well as financial support for research presentations, and study abroad and internship experiences. The program offers an on-campus Honors student lounge with access to study space, a copier, and kitchen. To further enhance honors education the program offers Honors housing as a Living and Learning Program in Legacy Hall. Midwestern State University is a member of the National Collegiate Honors Council and the regional Great Plains Honors Council. These affiliations broaden the scope of opportunities available for Honors students.

Admission to the Redwine Honors Program is by application and requires a written essay, a letter of recommendation, a resume, and transcripts verifying AP/IB/dual-enrollment/transfer credit. Prospective applicants must meet ONE of the following requirements: a minimum combined SAT score of 1200 excluding writing; a minimum composite ACT score of 25 excluding writing; high school graduation with an IB diploma; or high school graduation in the top 25%. Incoming freshmen wishing to be considered for the Redwine Presidential Scholarship must meet BOTH of the following requirements: high school graduation in the top 25% and a minimum combined SAT score of 1250 excluding writing or a minimum composite ACT score of 27 excluding writing. Under special circumstances, individuals may be granted provisional status based on relevant outstanding achievements. Continuing students, including transfer students, may apply to the Honors Program if they have at least 75 semester hours left to complete at MSU.
